Kitchen Remodel Cost Calculator
This kitchen remodel cost calculator turns your square footage and finish choices into an itemized budget instead of one guessed number. Enter your kitchen's size, scope, cabinet grade, countertop, and appliance plans to see cabinets, countertops, flooring, appliances, and the demo/plumbing/electrical allowance broken out separately — with a total range, not false precision.
All rates are editable national averages · reviewed July 2026.
Cabinets + counters are 42% of this budget — cabinet grade is the single biggest lever.

How kitchen remodel costs are calculated
Most of a kitchen's cost is driven by the length of your cabinet run, not simply the room's square footage — a long, narrow galley kitchen and a squarish kitchen of the same area need roughly the same number of cabinet boxes and the same length of countertop, so this calculator estimates cabinet linear footage from your floor area first, then prices everything else off that run.
Six components are estimated separately and summed: cabinets, countertop, flooring (box counts priced separately here), an allowance covering demo/plumbing/electrical/paint (sized by your renovation scope and finish tier), appliances, and an island if you're adding one. The subtotal is then multiplied by a cost-of-living region factor and shown as a range, because remodel quotes vary by region and by contractor far more than a single number can honestly represent.
If you already know your kitchen's actual cabinet run from a tape measure or a showroom quote, you can back into the equivalent floor area: solve sqft = (your linear ft − 8) ÷ 0.20 and enter that number instead — the rest of the estimate scales from there.

The formula
Worked example: a 120 sqft (10×12) kitchen remodel cost
The calculator's own defaults: a 120 sq ft kitchen (10 × 12 ft), replacing everything in the same layout, mid tier, stock cabinets at $225/lf, granite at $85/sqft, a mid-range $7,000 appliance package, no island, national-average region.
- 1. Cabinet linear ft0.20 × 120 + 8 = 32 lf
- 2. Cabinets32 × $225 = $7,200
- 3. Countertop32 × 0.8 × 2.1 = 53.8 sqft × $85 = $4,570
- 4. Flooring120 × $12 = $1,440
- 5. Scope allowancereplace, mid tier = $8,000
- 6. Appliances$7,000 · island $0
- 7. Subtotal$28,210 × 1.00 region
- 8. Range$23,979 – $32,441 · ~$235/sqft
The bathroom calculator prices the other big remodel the same way — base package plus named upgrades. Cabinets and countertop together are $11,770 of that $28,210 subtotal — about 42% — which is why cabinet grade is the single biggest lever. Swap stock for semi-custom at $475/lf and cabinets alone jump from $7,200 to $15,200, pushing the whole project past $36,000 before anything else changes.

| 10×12 (120 sqft) | $28,210 | $23,979–$32,441 | $235 |
| 12×12 (144 sqft) | $30,263 | $25,724–$34,802 | $210 |
| 12×16 (192 sqft) | $34,370 | $29,215–$39,526 | $179 |
| 15×16 (240 sqft) | $38,477 | $32,705–$44,249 | $160 |
All rows run this calculator's own formula at the defaults — replace-in-place scope, mid tier, stock cabinets at $225/lf, granite at $85/sqft, mid appliances, no island. The famous "10×10 kitchen" is the first row; cost per square foot falls as size grows because appliances and the scope allowance don't scale with floor area. Cabinet and countertop rate bands are cross-checked against published manufacturer and retailer price lists for stock, semi-custom, and custom cabinet lines, and against fabricator price sheets for laminate, butcher block, granite, and quartz countertop material plus installation. Scope allowance ranges reflect typical trade-labor bundling for a same-footprint replacement versus a full gut with a layout change. Prices reviewed July 2026 — see how our price reviews work.
