Terms of Use

Acceptance of these terms
By using TallyTakeoff, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. There is no account to close — stopping is enough.
These terms sit alongside our privacy policy, which explains what the site stores, and our methodology, which explains where the formulas and price ranges come from.
What TallyTakeoff is for
TallyTakeoff provides free, self-service calculators that estimate material quantities and costs for home improvement projects, from the measurements and price assumptions you provide or accept. Each tool shows the formula it used, the waste factor it applied, and the basis of any price it suggests, so the arithmetic can be checked rather than taken on trust.
You may use the calculators for personal or professional planning, free of charge, with no licence fee and no attribution requirement for the numbers you generate. The results are yours to use.
Estimates, not quotes or professional advice
Every result on this site is a planning estimate. It is not a quote, a purchase order, a specification, or professional advice. Formulas, waste factors, and default prices are general-purpose assumptions published for transparency. They are not a substitute for a contractor's on-site measurement, an engineer's structural calculation, a building-control or permit review, or a supplier's actual quotation on the day you buy.
Estimates diverge from reality for ordinary, well-understood reasons:
- Prices move and vary by region. Defaults are national averages carrying a review date; your local yard on the day of purchase is the only authority on price.
- Real sites are not rectangles. Slopes, obstructions, uneven subgrade, and out-of-square rooms all change quantities.
- Waste factors are typical, not guaranteed. Cut-heavy layouts, patterned installs, and inexperienced labour consume more.
- Products differ. Coverage rates, bag yields, and panel sizes vary between manufacturers and between production runs.
You are solely responsible for verifying quantities, prices, and suitability before purchasing materials or starting work. TallyTakeoff is not liable for cost overruns, material shortages or surplus, delays, or project outcomes arising from reliance on any calculator output.
Building regulations and safety
Some pages mention code-adjacent topics — egress requirements, guardrail heights, permit thresholds — because a quantity estimate is useless if the design is not permissible. That material is general information drawn from published sources, and it is not a code compliance determination for your project.
Building codes are local, are amended, and are enforced by people with authority this site does not have. Verify anything code-related with your local building department before you rely on it. TallyTakeoff does not provide engineering, architectural, surveying, or legal services, and nothing here should be treated as a professional sign-off.
Acceptable use
The calculators are free and open to everyone, which only works if they are not abused. You agree not to:
- Interfere with the site's operation, including automated request volumes that degrade it for others, or attempts to probe, scan, or breach it.
- Use the share-link feature to store material unrelated to a building estimate.
- Systematically scrape the site's content to reproduce it elsewhere — see intellectual property below.
- Misrepresent an estimate from this site as a quotation issued by anyone.
We may restrict access where use of the site threatens its availability for others.
Share links
Pressing Copy share link stores that calculator's inputs under a random short code so the link can rebuild the estimate elsewhere. What is stored, and what is not, is set out in the privacy policy.
Two things follow that are worth stating plainly. A share link is unguessable, not private — anyone you send it to, and anyone they forward it to, can open it. And saved estimates are deleted after 180 days, so a link is not an archive. If a number matters to you, print or save the takeoff. We may also remove a saved estimate sooner where it is abusive or unrelated to a building estimate.
Availability and changes to the site
The site is provided free of charge and without any uptime commitment. Calculators, defaults, formulas, and pages may be corrected, changed, or withdrawn at any time — in fact, correcting them is the point: prices are reviewed on a quarterly cadence and errors are fixed when found.
A consequence of that: an estimate produced today may not reproduce identically later, because a default price or a published coverage rate has been updated in between. This is intended behaviour, not a fault.
No warranty
The site and its calculators are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any estimate will match the materials or costs your project actually requires.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, TallyTakeoff and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for any loss of profit, revenue, data, or opportunity, arising from your use of or inability to use this site — including any loss arising from over- or under-ordering materials.
Because the site is supplied free of charge, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims connected with it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid to use it (which is nil) or the minimum sum permitted by applicable law.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you use the site as a consumer, you keep any statutory rights that cannot be waived, and those rights take precedence over anything in this section.
Indemnity
If you use this site in breach of these terms — in particular the acceptable-use section — and that causes a third-party claim against us, you agree to indemnify us for the reasonable costs of dealing with it. This does not apply to ordinary use of the calculators for their intended purpose, however wrong an estimate turns out to be.
Content and intellectual property
The text, calculator logic, data tables, diagrams, and design of TallyTakeoff belong to its operator unless otherwise noted. Third-party names — manufacturers, product brands, standards bodies — remain the property of their owners and are used only to identify what a figure refers to.
You may link to any page freely, quote a short passage with attribution and a link, and use the numbers a calculator produces for your own project or your client's, commercially or otherwise.
Please do not republish pages wholesale, reproduce the data tables as your own, or use the content to train or populate a competing calculator without asking first. To ask, or to request a licence, write to hello@tallytakeoff.com — the answer is often yes.
If you believe something here infringes your copyright, contact us with enough detail to identify the material and we will investigate promptly.
Third-party links
Pages may link to manufacturer guidance, trade references, or code authorities. Those sites are outside our control; a link is not an endorsement, and we are not responsible for their content, accuracy, or terms.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the site changes. The "last reviewed" date above reflects the most recent update, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
Severability and interpretation
If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, that provision is limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary and the remainder stays in force. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. Headings are for convenience and do not affect interpretation.
Your local law applies
TallyTakeoff is a free informational site operated by an individual, not a registered company. It sells nothing, takes no payment, and holds no account for you. For that reason these terms do not attempt to impose a governing law or a court venue on you — naming one we could not stand behind would tell you less than saying nothing.
Instead: whatever consumer protections apply where you live, apply. Nothing in these terms takes away a right your local law gives you and does not let you waive, and where any provision here conflicts with that law, your law wins and the rest of these terms carry on unaffected.
